Recreating the Roman Ambience: The Fountain di Trevi Wedding Set

A Grand Stage Inspired by Medieval Roman Architecture

Inspired by the iconic Fontana di Trevi, designer Arundhati Sathe brings the grandeur of Roman architecture to life in a stunning wedding reception stage.

The concept behind this reception stage is to recreate the ambiance of ancient Rome, with a touch of Baroque style. The main highlight of the design is the replica of the Fontana di Trevi, a famous Roman monument known for its grandeur and beauty. The stage aims to transport guests to the romantic atmosphere of Rome, making the event truly unforgettable.

What sets this project apart is the attention to detail and the unique elements that bring the Roman theme to life. The stage features a Roman entry gate that leads to an avenue lined with 75 Roman pillars on each side. The roofs of the seating tables are adorned with steel tiaras and fresh orchids, adding a touch of elegance. The main stage itself is designed to resemble a pond, giving the illusion of standing on water.

To realize this design, the key materials used include plywood, rubber molding, and fiber. The backdrop is modular in form, while the floor is made of acrylic aqua-colored sheets. Steel scaffolding supports the backdrop, and rubber is used for the Corinthian pillars with "capitals." The top of the pillars features papalo arms made of fiber. The round table sittings are centered between the columns and adorned with steel tiaras and draped orchids.

The stage stands at a height of 750mm, while the fountain reaches a height of 3000mm from the ground level. The dimensions of the backdrop are 16700mm x 10600mm x 9144mm.

Creating this design came with its fair share of challenges. The project had a tight timeline of just 20 days, and there were budget constraints and a shortage of skilled labor. Additionally, the team had to rely on secondary research data as they had no direct access to the original Fontana di Trevi. However, despite these challenges, the team managed to create a stunning depiction of the iconic structure.

The set is designed specifically for a wedding reception, with every element carefully curated to create a romantic and enchanting atmosphere. As guests walk down the grand avenue on a soft white fur carpet, they are greeted by the sound of flowing water, creating a soothing ambiance. The gate, the Roman pillars, the statue, the round tiara-style seating, and the impressive Fontana di Trevi stage all contribute to the overall experience.

This design was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in 2014 in the category of Performing Arts, Stage, Style, and Scenery Design. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The design is respected for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings to all who experience it.
